Dr. Ramesh G. Shah, President and Founder

Ramesh had over 20 years of experience in biotechnology research and product development, as well as entrepreneurial experience with pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Ramesh received his scientific training and education in microbiology, cell and immuno-biology with a Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India.  With his recent passing, the business is now directed by Daksha R. Shah, Vice President.

Ramesh first started with Duphar-Interfran, Ltd., Bombay (then a subsidiary of Philips-Duphar, N.V.) in immune globulin process development from placental blood. In 1973, Ramesh came to the U.S. to join Sloan-Kettering Cancer Research Institute, New York, where he spent six years working on in-vitro regulation and cell-differentiation of human and mouse bone marrow progenitor cells. In following years, he worked with small biotech companies to develop cell-derived products for commercial applications. As a natural progression of his entrepreneurial interest and strong conviction that biotechnology - particularly products from human cellular sources - can have enormous scientific and economic potential, Ramesh served as Director of Research for a small, start-up biotech company in Philadelphia, PA. He brought with him ideas about how to develop various cell-lines with unique characteristics and explore them for their secreted products. Ramesh acquired, by mutually beneficial agreement, this and other technology and intellectual property from the company and incorporated it into a new entity called Sigma Biologics, Inc.
